Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of capecitabine for metaphase and advanced Liver cancer and Ultrastructure variation ofliver cancer treated by capecitabine. Methods: Adopting clinically randomized trial: On the basis of TACE treatment group (twenty-three patients) received oral capecitabine 2500mg/ (m2, d) (divided into two doses )for 14 days, followed by 7 days of rest as a cycle, until more than two cycles. Control group(twenty-six patients) only received TACE for at least twince. By giving or not giving capecitabine preoperatively to patients who were ill with liver cancer, Ultrastructure variation of liver cancer cell that was induced by capecitabine could be learned from the difference. Results: there were 1CR. 14PR. 5SD. 3PD. in patients who received capecitabine and TACE, and the overall response rate was 65. 21%, the reductive rate of AFP and tumor were 68.75% and 73.91%; the median survival time was 11. 9 monthS. Control group: there were OCR. 7PR . 12SD.-2-7PD, the overall response rate was 26. 92%. the reductive rate of AFP and tumor were 31. 58 % and 30. 77%; the median survival time was 8. 3 months? The most Common side-effects of capecitabine were H-foot syndrome and diarrhea. ?ultrastructure variation of live cancer cell induced by capecitabine were such follows: cell-cell junctions were loose, the cytoplasm was hollow, the mitochondria vacuolalized or swelled. Rouf-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum and eu-chromatin reduced , the ratio between nucleus and cytoplasm reduced too;heterochromatin increased. The nucleus condensed . segregated and dissolved;the nucleolus reduced or disappeared, and the apoptotic bodies could be found. Conclusion : Capecitabine was feasible , safe and effective for metaphase and advanced liver cancer .The ultrastructure change of liver cancer treated by capecitabine showed that capecitabine could induce apoptosis and inhibit growth of liver cancer cell.
