Before the appearance of the MEAW ( multi-loop edgewise arch wire) technique, the treatment of openbite, crossbite and mandibular bias is very difficult. Young H. Kim designed the multi-loop edgewise arch wire in 1967 , and applied it to the treatment of openbite first, the result is perfect. After that many other orthodontists use this technique in clinic treatment, all of them get perfect results. [ObjectlThrougt the study of the "L" loop by the structural facets, then the mechanics and the feathers of the whole MEAW archwire, we try to find out the feathers of the MEAW technique. The purpose is to help the clinic work in orthodontics and the designing of the archwire in orthodontics.Part IA Finite Element Analysis of the Mechanical Characteristics of Preloaded "L" Loop[Objective] To analyze the mechanical characteristics of preloaded "L" loop. [Methods] The finite element model was built using 3D elastic 4 element and meshed. Apply node constrain and node displacement, and solve. [Results] FX and FY increase while the length of the medial arm increases, FY increases more with the distal arm than with the medial arm. [Conclusion] Mastering of the mechanical characteristics of preloaded "L" loop can help clinician.Part IIA finite element analysis of the mechanical characteristics ofthe "L" Loop of multi-loop edgewise arch wire betweendiffierent teeth[Objective] To analyse the mechanical characteristics ofmulti-loop edgewise arch wire. [Methods] Three dimensionsfinite elementmodel was builtusing 3D elastic 4 element and meshed. [Results]The stiffnesses of the L-loop of MEAW at diffierentinterbracket span are different, which in anterior is muchhigher than in postior. [Conclusion] Mastering of themechanical characteristics of multi-loop edgewise arch wirecan help clinician.Part mCompare the stress distribution between MEAW archwire and NiTirocking-chair archwire[Objective] To compare the stress distribution between MEAW archwire and NiTi rocking-chair archwire, to see if it is possible to substitute NiTi rocking-chair archwire for MEAW archwire. [Methods] Build the solid model in Pro/E, then transform them into Ansys, mesh , load and analysis. The material attribute defined individually. [Results] The two archwire have similar stress distribution. But in FX and FY, the force value are different, in FZ, the differences are distinctness. [Conclusion] There are some diffierences in the stress distribution between MEAW archwire and NiTi rocking-chair archwire, more attention should be paid when substitute NiTi rocking-chair archwire for MEAW archwire.[Conclusion] By this study, it is been noticed that the pre-loaded "L" loop can make the molars upright and movedistally . Since The "L" loop in anterior and posterior have different firmness, MEAW can make the anterior teeth stably and the posterior teeth move in one archwire at the same time. The stress distribution between MEAW archwire and NiTi rocking-chair archwire are similar, but there are still some obvious distinguish.
