Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of the microtraumatic circumferential resection and suspension by PPH stapler per anum, which performed in patients with internal rectal prolapse (IRP) type constipation. Methods: All the 30 selected cases, diagnosed IRP type constipation through symptoms, signs and defecography, were treated with the above therapy. The symptoms, signs and auxiliary examination before and after the treatment were observed and analyzed respectively. Results: The total therapeutic effect is 93.3%, and is 85.7% 3 months later, both better than the results documents had reported. The symptoms, signs and auxiliary examination improve significantly after treatment. Aside from an earlier recovery time and lower complication, the procedure has advantages of microtrauma and high effectiveness. The research project was passed identification successfully with the comment of "reaching the advanced level inland generally", September 7, 2003. Conclusion: The resection and anastomosis of the rectal mucosa were finished simultaneously by PPH stapler. As the obstruction factors eliminated, the vicious circulation caused by the prolapsed mucosa stopped and the rectal function recovered, the patient's defecation no longer obstructed. Tough scar occurred at the anastomotic stoma postoperative, which can prevent recurrence effectively matched by a long-term synthetical therapeutic scheme. The treatment is according to the concept of wholism and the theory of treating both the principal and subordinate aspects in TCM. It is a safe, effective and rapid method for treatment of IRP type constipation.
