【Objection】 The purpose of this experiment was to determine the respiratory effects by electrical stimulation at the Habenular nucleus (Hb) of rats. Respiratory frequency, range of the thoracic movement and arterial blood pressure were observed during experiment. All those assured that Hb take a role in respiratory adjustment and provide experimental datum for further study of the mechanism of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).【Method】 Experiments were performed on rats by electrical stimulation with electrode at the Hb, recording the change of frequency, range of the thoracic movement and arterial blood pressure at the same time. Use SPSS 10.1 soft ware to conduct the datum.【Result】1 The respiratory effects by electrical stimulation on the Hb. This team contains 26 rats. The influence of respiratory frequency by electrical stimulation on the Hb. With the frequency 14.64±1.92 beats/9s before and 22.97±3.11 beats/9s stimulating on Hb(P<0.05), the rats respired frequently. Respiration returned to normal after experiment . The influence of respiratory breadth by electrical stimulation on the Hb. The range of the thoracic movement was 7.94±1.24cm before and 10.85±1.81 cm while stimulating on Hb(P<0.05).The contrast team showed no obvious change in frequency and breadth by electrical stimulation on the Hb.(4)With the increased electrical voltaic degree used ,the frequency and breadth of respiration raised accordingly(P<0.05). 2 The respiratory effect by electrical stimulation on the inner part of MHb.This team contains 10 rats, 6 of them get the following result, the others react the same as the first team. The influence of respiratory frequency by electrical stimulation on the MHb. While stimulating on the Hb, the rats respired slowly, even to a degree of breathless. The frequency before stimulation was 12.64±1. 92 beats/9s and 3.67±2.73 beats/9s while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).The influence t of respiratory breadth by electrical stimulation on the MHb. The breadth before stimulation was 7.92±0.60 cm and 2.5±1.26 cm while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).The contrast team showed no change either.3 The respiratory effect by electrical stimulation on the outer part of MHb and LMb.This team contains 15 rats. All respired quickly, but the change of breadth wasn't same.(1) 11 rats respired quickly and breadth increased during experiment. The frequency of inner location before stimulation was 13.5±2.07 beats/9s and 20.8±4.09 beats/9s while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05). The breadth before stimulation was 8.05±1.60 cm and 10.83±1.94 cm while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).The frequency of outer location before stimulation was 13.6±1. 51 beats/9s and 24.43±3.51 beats/9s while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05). The breadth before stimulation was 8.02±1.56 cm and 10.65±1.83 cm while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).There was no obviously change between the inner and outer location.(2) 4 rats respired quickly and breadth decreased during experiment. the frequency of inner location before stimulation was 14.43±0.69 beats/9s and 26.25±6.06 beats/9s while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05). the breadth before stimulation was 7.38±0.49 cm and 6.65±0.68 cm while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).The frequency of outer location before stimulation was 14.38±0. 65 beats/9s and 24.5±4.03 beats/9s while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05). The breadth before stimulation was 7.4±0.51 cm and 6.93±0.59 cm while stimulating on the Hb(P<0.05).There was no obviously change between the inner and outer location.4 The cardiovascular activity effect by electrical stimulation on the Hb. Exciting the inner location increased arterial blood pressure. With the location adjusted, the breadth and slope of the arterial blood pressure reduced. Totally it was a elevated reaction.5 It followed by accelerated heart rate , bigger pupil, bristle hail and so on neural reaction.【Conclusion】1 Electrical stimulation at the habenular nucleus (Hb) of rats cause respiratory effects. With t...
