Part one The relationship between different blood components to cerebral vasospasm and immune abnormalities after SAHObjective: The study was aimed at investigating the relationship between different blood components to cerebral vasospasm and immune abnormalities after SAH.Methods: Adult rabbits were subjected to injection of one of the following materials: autogenous whole blood, incubated whole blood, platelet rich plasma, incubated plasma into the subarachnoid space. The animals were sacrificed at specified times, the basilar arteries were prepared to evaluate vasospasm and the level of VCAM-1 on the arterial wall. Results: Severe vasospasm and apparent raising of the level of VCAM-1 were observed 3 days later after the second use of whole blood, or 6 hours later after the first use of incubated whole blood, such changes were not observed after injection of platelet rich plasma and incubated plasma. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the level of VCAM-1 in the arterial wall and the degree of vasospasm, and the aged erythrocythe or erythrocyte lysate play a major role in the inflammation response on the arterial wall and vasospasm after SAH.
