Objective To study the different anastomotic in procedure of contrlateral C7 transfer, to observe the neural regenerative situation after partial end-to-end, end-to-end and end-to-side neurorrhaphy, in order to appreciate the clinical value of partial end-to-end neurorrhaphy. Methods 1. Seventy-two Wister rats were randomly divided into A,B,C three groups, twenty-four in each group. The C7 proximal end and C6 distal end were anastomosed with three different anastomotic patterns .The six samples in each group were removed respectively at the 4th,8th, 12th, 16th week after anastomosis. 2. The nerve samples were stained with HE and chromotropic acid 2R-brilliant green myelin staining . The regenerating nerve axon of C6 distal end were calculated under the microscopy 400 times .The cross section area of the regenerative nerve axons in nerve samples were detected with computer image analysis technique. 3. Eighteen rats were examined with electrophysiology at 16th week.Result 1. The counts of the regenerative nerve axon show that the neural regenerative situation has no significant difference (P>0.05) between partial end-to-end and end-to-end neurorrhaphy in different periods, but significant difference was exist between end-to-side neurorrhaphy and the two former(P<0.05). 2. The cross section area of the regenerative nerve axon showed that developmental degree of the regenenative nerves has no significant difference (P>0.05) between partial end-to-end and end-to-end neurorrhaphy in different periods by using computer image analysis technique ,but significant difference was exist between end-to-side neurorrhaphy and the two former (P<0.05) .Conclusion Partial end-to-end neurorrhaphy is superior to end-to-side neurorrhaphy , but no significent difference with end-to-end neurorrhaphy in the counts and the developmental degree of the regenerative nerve axon. This technique of nerve anastomosis has a definite value in clinical application for treatment of the brachial plexus root avulsion injuries.
