Objective: The effect of gene P53, P63, P73 protein expression on the cellular apoptosis was studied for understanding the possible mechanism of malignant growth of gastric cancer.Methods:57 paraffin-embeded samples of gastric cancer and the para-cancer tissue from surgical resected tissues were selected. The expression of P53.P63 and P73 protein were detected immunohistochemically, and the Apoptosis in these samples was detected by Tunel labeling method. Results: Positive rate of P53 protein in gastric cancer samples was 38.6%. Positive rate of P63 protein in gastric cancer sample was 50.9%. Positive rate of P73 protein in gastric cancer sample was 36.8%.Those of P53,P63 and P73 in matched paracancer tissues were 17.5%,8.8% and 5.3% respectively. The AI(apotopsis index) in the paracancer tissues was significantly higher than those in the cancer tissues. The expression levels of P53.P63 and P73 correlated statistically with the histological grade and lymph node matastasis.and so did the AI.Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between the P53,P63 and P73 protein expression . Conclusions: The higher expression of P53,P63 and P73 in the gastric cancer may be contributed to the inhibition of cell apoptosis.and the abnormal mechanism of apoptosis may be lead to the proliferation of gastric cancer be out of control.
