Objective To investigate the occurrence of gentamicin induced hearing loss in clinical practice by different approachs. Methods Using audiometer and acoustic brainstem response check and follow up 83 patients before and after taking gentamicin by intravenous drop, 77 patients by muscle injection. Results Hearing level of the patients taken routine dosage gentamicin by intravenous drop and muscle injectiion changed similarly during treatment, but hearing loss in muscle injection group was more severe than that in intravenous drop group on following-up. More hearing damage occurred at high frequencies. Conclusion Audiogram should be performed before and during the use of gentamicin. It may be more dangerous to take medcine at night.
