The Origin And Evelopment Of Diagnostics And Therapeutics Of Stroke In Traditional Chinese Medical Science

In Chinese medicine , stroke is regarded as a disease caused by disordered flow of qi and blood due to wind , fire , phlegm and stasis resulting in obstruction of the cerebral vessels or cerebral hemorrhage . In clinic its main manifestations are sudden faint and fall , unconsciousness , semi-paralysis , awry of mouth and tongue , retraction of tongue and aphasia , semi-numbness of the body , and this is a common and frequent disease in clinic .However , because of the variousness in understanding of the meaning of "stroke" among the doctors in different ages and even in same period , to some degree , the ancient literature misleaded later investigators inevitably . Therefore , this essay studied the changes of the concept of stroke in each phase .The knowledge and realization of stroke was gradually improved and huge changes have happened in its causes, mechanisms , diagnosis, differentiation and treatment . Before Tang-Song Dynasty , the "external wind " was considered as the main cause of stroke . In Song-Yuan Dynasty , some doctors such as Liu Wansu , Li Dongyuan and Zhu Danxi presented their objections to the idea of external factors , and held that stroke and paralysis was not caused by the external wind , but by the internal factors . Since then ,the etiology of stroke , which was mainly based on internal wind , has come into shape . The essay reviewed and studied the famous doctors' characteristics of the diagnoses and treatments of stroke in different phases . It induced and put in order analysized the origin and development of various kinds of opinions about the etiological factors , mechanisms and treatments .As the onset of the disease is sudden , changeable with severe and dangerous state and various sequelae , the disease has drawn much attention of doctors in each time and through long time of clinical observation and practice ,the understanding of its regularity of occurrence and the main points in syndrome differentiation has been completed and there are creative theories of stroke and experience in clinical treatment with drugs based on general summary . The essay studied , analysized and discussed the importment ideas about the diagnoses and treatments of stroke for further study and clinical practice .
