Background: Indicated by the animal experiments, the Dendrobium Compound (DC) could reduce the blood-glucose, enhance the immunization of the body. Clinical studies confirmed that DC had the curative effect for diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. This experiment will further to study the effect of DC on DM and relieving the insulin resistance (IR).Objective: With two methods to make the models of diabetes mellitus rats to investigate the influence of DC on DM model Rats, and to provide the experimental data for the further studies and clinical practices.Methods: Hyperglycemia model rats were induced by alloxan(ALX) and by the enrich-diet+ streptozotocin (STZ). Selected the rats whose fasting blood glucose≥ 11mmol/L and cured with the different medicines respectively. After treatment, the rats were executed to examine the fasting and postprandial blood glucose, insulin, glucagons, triglyceride, cholesterol, free fat acids, and tumor necrosis factor-a, to take the pathological examination of the pancreas and kidneys.Results:1. The DM model rats induced by ALX (low dose, multi-injection), enrich-diet + STZ (low dose) were ideal animal models for the experimental study.2. The DC could decrease the level of fasting and postprandial blood glucose significantly (P<0.01). regulate the secretion of the insulin and CP (P<0.05), decrease the glucagons (P<0.01), and relieve the IR in DM model rats; decrease the triglyceride and cholesterol significantly (P<0.01), and inhibit the secretion of the free fat acids (P<0.01). Above biochemical indexes similar to the Glibenclamide and Phenethyldiguanide (P>0.05), while better than Yuquanwan(P<0.05).3. The DC could decrease tumor necrosis factor-a, significantly (P<0.01) in fat rats induced by enrich-diet.4. By the pathological examination of the pancreas, the DC could reduce the damage of ALX & STZ to the pancreas and recover the function of islet β-cell to a certain degree.Conclusions: The Dendrobuim Compound could efficiently decrease the blood-glucose, glucagons, cholesterol, triglyceride, FFA and TNF-a, relieve the symptom of DM model rats, regulate the secretion of the insulin and C-P, relieve the IR in DM model rats, and protect the tissue of pancreas in a certain extent. Above results demonstrated that DC is an ideal Chinese herb formula for Type 2 DM.
