Background Cerebrovascular disease is a common disease with high prevalence frequency and high mortality. It is one of the three most dangerous diseases that danger people's health. A lot of correlation factors studied , hypertension, heat disease, diabetes mellitus, smoking and alcohol are found as risk factors by experts home and abroad. Though people have studied and prevented factors the risk of main Cerebrovascular disease, that is brain infarction, there is a still a high prevalence frequency of brain infarction. Studying the reasons of diabetes mellitus with cerebral infarction, hypertension with cerebral infarction and cerebral infarction only, especilly studying the reasons of gene mutation, which is a striking signifiance. Objective To study the association of RAGE gene Gly82Ser polymorphism in patients with cerebral infarction according to multiple factors and multiple genes leading to disease. Methods Fasting venous blood was obtained and blood total genomic DNA was extracted. The Gly82Ser gene at position of RAGE gene exon 3 was determined by PCR-RFLP method in 56 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with cerebral infarction(DM&.CI),60 hypertension with cerebral infarction patients (HP&-CI),46 cerebral infarction patients a-lone(CI)and 50 healthy control subjects of Han nationality, blood glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol and electrocardiogram are analysed, diabetic mellitus history and hypertension family history are writed as stastistics. Results The frequencies of RAGE gene Gly82Ser GS heterozygous genotype were significantly higher in hypertension patients with cerebral infarction than those in control subjects(P<0. 05). There was no striking difference of the GS heterozygous genotype and the S allele frequency in diabetes mellitus with cerebral infarction group and cerebral infarction patients alone(P>0. 05). In the meantime, the study also has shown that hypertension, diabetes mellitus ,heart disease, diabetic mellitus history and hypertension family history are strong association with cerebral infarction patients (P<0. 05).Conclusion RAGE gene Gly82Ser GS heterozygous genotype may be associated with HP&CI patients. RAGE gene Gly82Ser polymoiphism is not associated with DM&-CI and CI alone patients. Hypertension, diabetes meilitus ,heart disease, diabetic mellitus history and hypertension family history are risk factors of cerebral infarction. (P<0.05)...
