Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of p53 vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF) and their role in the procedure of angiogenesis and a-mong the patterns of microvessels in human gastric carcinoma.MethodsS - P immunohistochemical method was used to investigate the expression of p53 , VEGF and micro vessel count as well as the patterns of micro vessel in 43 cases of gastric carcinoma and 10 cases of normal gastric tissue adjacent to lesion tissue.ResultsThe MVC in p53 or VEGF positive tumor was significantly higher than that in gastric carcinoma out expression of p53 or VEGF( P <0. 01). The MVC was associated with the patterns of microvessel( P < 0. 05). The MVC in tumor tissue with the diffuse pattern was high as 76.5 17. 7. There was a significant correlation between VEGF expression and the presence of diffuse vascular pattern. The positive rate of VEGF in tumor tissue with the diffuse pattern (82.4% ) was signif-icantly higher than in cuffing pattern(28. 6% ) or in mixed type( P < 0.05 ). Conclusion p53 and VEGF play a key role in occurrence and development of gastric carcinoma. The patterns of micro vessels may be associated with p53 - VEGF pathway.
