Objective: The defected bladder wall of rat was repaired by a small intestinal submucosa of pig, to observe the expression and alteration of basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor- b1 in the xenogeneic small intestinal submucosa in bladder reconstruction. Methods: The defected bladder wall of rat was repaired by a small intestinal submucosa of pig, as the experiment group. In the control group, the bladder mucosa and partial smooth muscle of rat was destroyed . At regular intervals, we observed the bladder reconstruction and the alteration of basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor- 1 by immunohistochemistry after operation. Results: In the small intestinal submucosa framework, a new capillary, smooth muscle fiber and large bundles of smooth muscle formed at week 2, 4 and 10, respectively. The experiment group had basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor- 1 expression beginning from week 1, with a peak in week 6 and week 4. In the control group, basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor- 1 cound be found but without any peak. Conclusion: 1. In the small intestinal submucosa framework, new capillary, smooth muscle fiber and large bundles of smooth muscle formed2. In the progress of the xenogeneic small intestinal submucosa in bladder reconstruction, the basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor- 1 can affect the growth of new capillary and smooth muscle.
