Objective: To establish a model of the spleen deficient Mongolian Gerbils infected by Helicobacter pylori ( Hp ), to observe the curative effect and the gastric mucosal inflammation of bactericidal treatment with Qingyou Weitai decoction on the Mongolian Gerbils of spleen deficiency infected by Hp and to explore the pathogenesis of Traditional Chinese Medicine in chronic gastritis induced by Hp and the possible therapeutic mechanism in Hp-associated gastritis of Qingyou Weitai decoction. Methods: The spleen deficient Mongolian gerbils induced by reserpine were inoculated with Hp SSI to establish an Mongolian gerbils model of spleen deficiency infected by Hp, the Mongolian gerbils of spleen deficiency, the Mongolian gerbils infected by Hp and the normal Mongolian gerbils were treated as control group; then treated with Qingyou Weitai decoction normal dosage and double dosage, compared with those treated by Livzon WeiSanLian or by distilled water, detect the gastric mucosal inflammation, Hp infection, nitric oxide level and nitric oxide synthase activity of every groups. Results: Compared with the other groups, the nitric oxide level, the nitric oxide synthase activity and the number of Hp colonization of the gastric mucosa in Mongolian gerbils of spleen deficiency infected by Hp were significantly higher, the gastric mucosal inflammation was significantly more severe too; the nitric oxide level and the nitric oxide synthase activity of the gastric mucosa in Mongolian gerbils of spleen deficiency were significantly lower, but the gastric mucosal inflammation was not significantly severe;compared with the Mongolian gerbils of spleen deficiency and the normal Mongolian gerbils, the number of Hp colonization of the gastric mucosa in Mongolian gerbils infected by Hp were significantly higher and the gastric mucosal inflammation was significantly severe, but the nitric oxide level and the nitric oxide synthase activity of the gastric mucosa were not significantly higher. Compared with the group treated by distilled water, thenormal dosage and the double dosage of Qingyou Weitai decoction could eliminate Hp efficiently and improve the gastric mucosal inflammation, the nitric oxide level and the nitric oxide synthase activity of these groups were decreased significantly; in comparing with the group treated by Livzon WeiSanLian, the curative effect of Qingyou Weitai decoction was worse, but there were no significantly difference in improving the gastric mucosal inflammation, decreasing the nitric oxide level and the nitric oxide synthase activity. Conclusions: The spleen deficiency probably is the pathological foundation of Hp infection and the infection of Hp is the essential condition of leading to the gastric mucosal inflammation, on the Mongolian Gerbils of spleen deficiency infected by Hp, the Qingyou Weitai decoction could eliminate Hp efficiently and improve the gastric mucosal inflammation by regulating the nitric oxjde level in gastric mucosal.
