Objective: to study if REM (Real Ear Measurement) used in hearing aid evaluation can compare with subjective feeling of the patients; whether REM can offer help in hearing aid selection. Methods: 25 ears take part in my experiment, they believe that the hearing aids they wearing are suitable. REM wasn't done when these hearing aids were selected. Then, all the ears are done with REM after wearing their hearing aids and the patients finish ABHAP (Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit) questionnaire before and after wearing their hearing aids. Result: the better target gain curve compared with insert gain curve, the better patients' attitude toward hearing aid evaluation, the higher SRT (Speech Recognize Threshold), the better the effect of hearing aid. According to the result of REM, we also can draw a conclusion that sound pressure level near tympanic membrane elevates while wearing hearing aid; Target gain curve compared with insert gain curve differently on different hearing loss level. Conclusion: Results of REM agree with patients' subjective feeling , then REM is a objectively good method that can be used in the evaluation and selection of hearing aids; REM should be routinely used in all hearing aid fitting.
