Objective: To evaluate the effects of the three types of different psychological intervention that is general supportive psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, progressive nerve muscle relaxation in improving the psychological and physical symptoms of patients with chronic hepatitis B.Method: 90 cases of chronic hepatitis B patients were divided into 3 groups randomly. General supportive psychotherapy, cognitive therapy and progressive nerve muscle relaxation were adopted in two experimental groups respectively. The patients had personality test using Cattell 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (16-PF) upon admission; The psychological status of the experimental and control groups were assessed by symptom checklist 90(SCL?0), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale( SDS) 2 and 4 weeks after their admission.Results: The results indicated that SCL-90, SAS and SDS scores of the experimental group were obviously lower than control group after 2 and 4 weeks intervention(P<0.05). The SCL-90, SAS and SDS scores of the experimental groupafter 2 and 4 weeks intervention were lower than that of before intervention(P<0.05). The SCL-90 ,SAS and SDS scores of the patients who were adopted progression nerve muscle relaxation were lower than that of general supportive psychotherapy and cognitive therapy after 2 weeks intervention(P<0.05) and the SAS and SDS scores were lower comparing with it after 4 weeks intervention (P<0.05).Conclusions: General supportive psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, progressive nerve muscle relaxation can improve the patients psychological and physical symptoms. Progressive nerve muscle relaxation is better than the general supportive psychotherapy and cognitive therapy in improving patient's moods of anxiety and depression.
