The study of spleen-asthenia syndrome (SAS) is an active point among the studies of TCM modernization. Based on dysfunction of alimentary system, involves many organs and systems. Pancreas is an important organ in alimentary system. Our subject group creats a new SAS rats model, which Islet A cells is selectively injured by cobalt nitrate. The animal model has been checked through observing its manifestation, testing objective indexes and studying counter evidence after treated by Decoction of Four noble Drugs. Mechanism has also been probed tentatively. The results show that the new animal model of SAS is created successfully and has many advantage. Its pathologic changing, selective injury on rats' Islet A cells, is explicit. The animal model can be used directly to study the relation between SAS and the change of Islet A cells. It also lay a foundation for further research on the correlation between SAS and dysfunction of pancreas endocrine, open a new way, provide a new train of thought and method. The results also show that gastrin being released into blood in great quantity is a main pathologic base leading to SAS. The main reason which causes the release of gastrin is the dysfunction of cholinergic nerve leaded by injury of Islet A cells. The exact mechanism needs deep study in the future.
