Suwen Jiaoyi and Dushu Yulu (about plain questions ) are two medical books which respectively were written by the two linguists, Hu Shu and Yu Yue of the later Qing Dynasty. According to the old methods of Puxue which prevailed in Qianlong and Jiaqing times, the two authors gave detailed proofreads and annotations to plain questions. This had enlightenment effects for us to study the Internal Classic of Medicine. Based on literatures of TCM, the author of this article discussed background of the publication of the two medical books and all the other works of Hu Shu and Yu Yue, the advantages and disadvantages of their proofreads and annotations for plain questions, and the effects of the two books on the later generations. The reason why Hu Shu and Yu Yue studied on plain questions were closely related to the political background of Qing Dynasty, prosperity of Puxue in Qianlong and Jiaqing times and the confucianists' attention to medical classics. The proof methods of lijiao and benjiao were applied in the two books. Hu Shu also used duijian method, and Yu Yue used tajiao method occasionally. They adopted the experiences of Wang Nian -sun and Wang Yin - zhi in their.study of classical works, that is, defining the word meaning by linguistic environment and explore its original meaning by phonology. The two books had certain effects on study of plain questions and medical classics. But, because of their limitation of times and the knowledge structures, there were still many disadvantages in the two books. Summing up the experiences and morals of the two books were bound to make contribution to study of medical classics.
