Objectives: To study the characters of presurgical stress and psychosocial factors in breast cancer patients and it's effect on the immunity function. The patients of breast cancer and benign tumor completed the following questionnaires before operation by themselves: Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Life Event Scale (LES), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ). However, Hamilton Depression rating Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety rating Scale (HAMA) were evaluated by researcher. Meanwhile, the immunity indices of all patients were tested before operation. The people of normal control only completed the above scales and didn't test the indices of immunity. All date was analyzed by statistics means of t-test, x2 test, stepwise multiple regression. Results: (1) The score of EPQ'N in breast cancer group is clearly higher than the benign tumor group and control group. But the score of EPQ'E in cancer group is lower than another two groups. (2) The occurrence rate of depression and anxiety in breast cancer and benign tumor groups is clearly higher than the control group, so is the total score of SAS and SDS and HAMA and HAMD. Also, the occurrence rate of depression and anxiety in breast cancer group is higher than the benign tumor group. (3) The immature defense style score is higher inbreast cancer group than another two groups. But the mature defense style score is lower. (4) The score on the total social support and objective support and utility degree of social support is clearly lower than the benign tumor and control groups. (5) The depression and anxiety factors' score of C type behavior character in breast cancer and benign tumor groups is clearly higher than the control group. The score of angrysuppression factor in breast cancer group is remarkly higher than another two groups, but the score of angry expression factor is lower. (6) The score of total and negative life events in breast cancer is remarkly higher than another two groups. (7) The depressive emotion in breast cancer patients is negatively associated with age, personality characters, immature defense factor score, negative life events, but positively associated with total score of social support as well. (8) The depression of breast cancer group make the immunity function decrease, it mainly affected the function of IgG and CD4+ and NK cell activity. The negative life events which the breast cancer had experienced in recent one year mainly made the immunity function decrease too, such as IgM, C3, CD3+, NK cell activity. While the total score of social support could make the immunity function increase, such as IgA, CD4+,CDi9+, NK cell activity. (10) The amount of IgA in breast cancer patients' blood is positively associated with economic condition and the score of subjective support, but negatively associated with the negative life events and KAMA total score. The CD4+ in breast cancer patients is mainly related to psychosocial factors such as social support, HAMD total score, and personality characters. The CDi9+ is mainly related to economic condition, social support, HAMA total score and immature defense style. The NK cell activity is mainly related to social support, HAMD total score, HAMA total score and immature defense style. Conclusion: (1) The breast cancer patients possess the following personality characters: be liable to anxiety and depression, dislike social contacts, mask emotional reaction and introversion.
