Objection Through the randomized research of the malocclusion of students in high schools to understand the morbidity and prevalence of malocclusion in Macau teenagers. Methods Arranged by the government according to the economic status and different districts, 2343 high school students are chosen to undergo the randomized investigation. Using the indices of the Treatment Priority Index, individual normal malocclusion, Angle's classification and common manifestation to have the investigation of malocclusion.Result The rate of malocclusion according to the TPI index is 68.04%. There are 749 students in the normal occlusion group, is 31.96%. There are 585 students in the TPI>4(need to have the treatment) group, is 24.98% The rate of malocclusion according to the individual normal occlusion is 43.50%. According to the Angle's classification , there are 1528 students in Angle's class I group, is 65.20%. There are 470 students in Angle's class HI group, is 20.10%. And there are 345 students in Angle's class II group, is 14.70% only. After the crosstab test, there are significant differences in the rate between boys and girls classified by the Angle's classification ( p<0.05 ). The crowding rates are 43.66%. The rate of malocclusion according to the TPI is distinctively higher than the rate according to the individual normal occlusion. There are significant differences in the rate of malocclusion among the 9 high schools according to the TPI (p <0.05 ).Conclusion The rate of malocclusion of the teenagers in Macau is high. It shows that further enhancement of the promotion and the teaching about how to prevent and treat malocclusion is necessary. The morbidity of the TPI index is obviously higher than the individual normal malocclusion, it indicates that theTPI index can more objectively review the morbidity, prevalence features and severity of malocclusion in individuals, for TPI has a measurable and uniform examining items, and less deviation. The morbidity of the malocclusion of the nine high schools shows that economic factor is relevant. The research can provide information for further development of different proposals on malocclusion in Macau.
