Objective: To evaluate using value of the National Institutes of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSIX the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) and the maximum flow rate (Qmax) on diagnosis and therapy of chronic prostatitis. To evaluate curative effect of adrenergic alpha receptor blockader and antibiotic in the treatment of chronic prostatitis. Methods: 96 chronic prostatitis patients 12 benign prostatic hyperplasia patients and 12 health people were examined with the National Institutes of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSIX the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) and the maximum flow rate (Qmax) . 96 chronic prostatitis patients were divided into two groups according the maximum flow rate (Qmax) <20ml/s and 20ml/s, every group was randomly treated with adrenergic alpha receptor blockader or antibiotic and were examined with the National Institutes of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSI) and the maximum flow rate (Qmax) after treatment. Results: There was significant difference between chronic prostatitis patients and benign prostatic hyperplasia patients and health people in the National Institutes ofHealth chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSI) ,the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) and the maximum flow rate (Qmax) (P<0. 01) . There was significant difference among four groups in the effective rate (P>0.05). In the maximum flow rate (Qmax) <20ml/s group, adrenergic alpha receptor blockader can improve the maximum flow rate (P<0. 01).Conclusions: the National Institutes of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSIX the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) and the maximum flow rate (Qmax) may play an important role in evaluating the curative effect, diagnosis and guiding treatment. Adrenergic alpha receptor blockader and antibiotic were effective drugs for chronic prostatitis. Adrenergic alpha receptor blockader was more effective drugs for chronic prostatitis with the maximum flow rate (Qmax) <20ml/s.
