Objective To ascertain whether the human glucocorticoid receptor polymorphism is associated with cerebral infarction(CI) in Chinese. Methods This is a case-control study in Chinese DNA samples abstracted from 141 cases, which were analysed by a polymerase chain reaction ( PCR ), restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) to determine the intron 4 variant of human glucocorticoid receptor gene. Results For the groups as a whole , no association was observed between the EH + CI group and control group and the CI and control group. However,in females, weak associated was observed between the EH+CI group or CI group and control group. Frequencies of allele G were 0. 64 in EH+CI group,0. 46 in control group,0. 69 in CI group and 0. 46 in control group. Conclusion The G allele may be a predisposing gene marker , HGR gene intron 4 polymorphism contributes to the development of CI in females.
