Object: To study the effect of different frequency electroacupuncture on the peripheral nerve regeneration by using different frequency electroacupuncture treatment after rat's sciatic nerve injury. Method: 130 rats were randomly divided into five groups: 5F electroacupuncture treatment group, 50Hz electroacupuncture treatment group,100Hz electroacupuncture treatment group, the model group and the control group. 4mm defect was produced in the left sciatic nerve of each rat and silicon nerve guards were used to bridge the nerve defect not including the rats of the control group. After 10 weeks electroacupuncture treatment, gross observation, histological examination of the sciatic nerve were carried with method of HE stainning and S-100 immunhistochemical staining, Sevier-Munger stainnning. The histomorphometric examination of the triceps muscles were observed with measuring width muscle cell and the wet weight, and measuring the content of the heparin and the lactic aid of the triceps muscle with biochemistry methods. Results: 1, There were more numbers of the regenerated nerve fibers and the wider diameter of nerve fibers in the electroacupuncture groups than that of the model group. 2 There were significant difference in diameter of muscle cell between the model group and the electroacupuncture group (P<0.01) . The diameter of muscle cell fibers in the 5Hz frequency electroacupuncture treantment group were wider than the that of the model group; 3 The content of the heparin of triceps muscle in the electroacupuncture treatment group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05 ) ; 4 There is not difference in the content of the lactic acid between the modle group and the electroacupuncture group (P>0.05) . Conclusion: Electroacupuncture can promote the sciatic nerve regeneration and the low frequency electroacupuncture has the significant effective .
