Objective: To study the diagnosis and treatment of cystic renal cell carcinoma (CRCC).Methods: A retrospective study was made on clinical findings of 12 patients.Preoperative B-ultrasonography > CT and /or MRI were done in all patients. Radiologic examination was categorized using Bosniak s classification. Histopathologic examination was categorized using Hartman' s classification.Radic al nephrectomy was performed in 11 patients and partial nephrectomy in 1 patient. Results: Malignant lesion was diagnosed on B-ultrasound and CT in 9 patients and complicated cyst in 3 patients who the diagnosis of maligancy was made on MRI. Histopathologic examination demostrated cystic necrosis in 6 patients, mult ilocular cysticrenal cell carcinoma in 3, and unilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma in 3 patients. 11 patients have been followed up.l patient died of the disease at 9 months. 10 patients had no evidence of disease, whose suvival periods ranged 10 months to 10 years with an average of 3.5 years. Conclusions: Combination B-ultrasound and CT can enhance the diagonosis of CRCC.MRI is useful to differentiate the indeterminate cystic renal mass by CT scanning.Radical nephrectomy is the choice of treat for most patients. The prognosis of CRCC may be better than that of solid renal cell carcinoma.
