With the increasing numbers of the elderly, Alzheimer disease (AD) has become one of the most dangerous diseases that threaten the health of old people. Its pathogenesis is still unknown. Studying on the etiopathology will contribute to the therapy of AD. Objective: To establish the Alzheimer's disease animal models through kainic acid damaging nucleus basalis of Meynert and to investigate the expression of P-APP, GFAP, iNOS and TR mRNA in hippocaxnpus and their possible roles in AD. Methods: The animal models of Alzheimer's disease are established after kainic acid injecting into nucleus basalis of Meynert. The AD animal models are concluded to be successful or not through the performance of Y-shape maze task and the expression of P-APP. We investigated the proliferation of atrocytes and the expression of iNOS through iinmunohisto? chemical method of ABC. With the method of in situ hybridization, we also observed the expression of TR mRNA. Results:(l)The learning abilities of KA-injected rats were lower than that of those before KA-injection(pKO. 001) and the controls (p
