Dairy cow mastitis is one of the most common diseases in cow cultivation. It not only influences the quantity of cow milk, which may cause severe economic losses, but also influences the quality of the milk. People have payed more attention to prevent cow mastitis. Usually the antibiotics were used to cure the disease, however, the problems of residues and bacteria resistance to antibiotics have becoming more and more serious when antibiotic were used, which have been noticed by the people all over the world. Chinese medicinal herb possesses the characteristics including no tolerance, low poison and anti-inflammatory and so on. The therapy of cow mastitis with Chinese medicinal herb is followed interest by many scholars. Ruzhongxiao plaster is a compound medicine which is mainly made by Phellodendron Amurense, Herba Taraxaci, Tokyo Violet Her, Common burreed tuber, Zedoary rhizome and other ten Chinese crude drugs, and has heat-clearing and detoxicating, promoting blood flow and eliminating stasis to activate blood circulation, detumescence and odynolysis, purulent discharge and activating meridians function. In order to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Ruzhongxiao plaster on the mastitis, the mastitis epidemicity was investigated in Harbin suburb, at the same time, the clinical therapeutic test was carried out and its mechanism for dairy cattle mastitis was studied in present experiments.Investigating of the mastitis was implemented in eight large dairy farms among the region and California mastitis test (CMT method) and somatic cell counts (SCC) were used for determining mastitis. The results indicated that the positive rate of clinical dairy cattle mastitis was 15.30%, the positive rate of mammary region was 6.59%, the positive rate of subclinical dairy cattle mastitis was 47.81%, and the positive rate of mammary region was 30.72%. There were some relationships between mastitis and cow's age, parity, lactating phases. And the risk was relating with elder, more parity cow and during mid-late lactating phases.The cure rates of compound medicine Ruzhongxiao plaster were 90.91% and 95.24% for clinical and subclinical dairy cattle mastitis respectively, which is higher than the positive control medicine Zhongyaosuxiaoxiaoyan paste. That it can reduce the number of the milk somatic cells and increase production of dairy cattle indicated that Ruzhongxiao sticking plaster possessed better efficacy for clinical and subclinical mastitis.The aim of this study was to discover the mechanism of Ruzhongxiao plaster from the two aspects of the effect on immune function and anti-inflammatory effects. The results of immune function test indicated that Ruzhongxiao plaster can significantly improve the exponent of mouse immune organ, phagocytosis index of mononuclear macrophage, activity of blood-serum antalzyme and splenic lymphocyte proliferation; compared with the saline group, it was significant (p<0.05). The results of test for anti-inflammatory mechanism of action indicated that Ruzhongxiao plaster can decrease the inflammatory mediators of PGE2, histamine and 5- HT and improve the antioxidant capacity of the inflammatory part, compared with the model group, it was significant (p<0.05).In conclusion, the research showed that there were some relationships between mastitis and cow's age, parity, lactating phases around Harbin, the positive rate of subclinical dairy cattle mastitis was higher than clinical dairy cattle mastitis, Ruzhongxiao plaster possessed better efficacy for clinical and subclinical mastitis and can reduce the number of the milk somatic cells, increase production of dairy cattle. And it indicated that improving immune function, decreasing the generating inflammatory mediators of PGE2, histamine and 5 - HT and improve the antioxidant capacity of the inflammatory part were the mechanism for curative dairy cattle mastitis.
