The metabolites of actinomycete SPRI-709084 strain could inhibit the growth of most gramineous weeds and cause them chlorosis and etiolation.In this paper, a purified compound which has herbicidal activity was obtained. Centrifugal separation, solvent extraction, silic gel column chromatography, TLC, HPLC and other ways, was used to purify the fermented broth of actinomycete SPRI-709084 strain, named SPRI-709084A. The UV, MS,1HNMR,13CNMR and other spectra data of this compound were used to identificate the strcture of this compound. The structure of SPRI-709084A was elucidated (5S)-5-[(1R)-1-(1H-indol-3-yl) ethyl]-2-(methylamino)-4 (5H)-oxazolone, which was as same as indolmycin. Indolmycin had been reported for its effect against many gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative bacteria. But its herbicidal activity was first found.In this research, an analysis method which the herbicidal activity compound was analysed by the reverse phase HPLC was established. In addition, the compound of SPRI-709084A was bioassayed the herbicidal activity with the pot test.
