This research was done during the year 2008-2009 in Agricultural Research Station of Plant Science College of Xinjiang Tarim University. The tested soil was of medium fertility. The tested cotton varieties were the self-cultivated hybrid of South Xinjiang named Tianshan Hybrid No.1. The research was divided into three parts: comparison of biological characteristics of two types of transplanting seedlings, optimum period of seedling and transplanting, and optimum transplanting density. The research results are as follows:1.By compare the plug seedling has a higher leaf emergence speed than the bare-root seedling; on the other hand, the latter is better than the former with regard to stem diameter, descending axis growth, and increase of dry matter of the aboveground part.2.The rejuvenation period after transplanting of the plug seedling is shorter than that of the bare-root seedling, its survival rate after transplanting is higher, and so its growth process is earlier than the bare-root seedling.3.Under different transplanting densities, the daily growth and leaf area of single plant height and dry matter accumulation differs slightly before budding; after budding the difference increases with time.4.In the period from March 6 to March 30, the seedling time does not form a considerable influence on the yield. In the period from April 15 to May 5, the transplanting time influences the yield: the earlier the transplanting, the higher the yield.5.The bolling rate of the inlier fruit section tends to increase with the increase of transplanting density. The caulis leaves, the fruit spur leaves and the whole leaves of the group increase with the increase of density, and the increase of the whole group leaves tends to stop when the density reaches 180,000 trunk /hm2. The leafy shoot and fruit spur are the most under the density of 90,000 trunk /hm2, and tend to decrease over this density. The group boll amount increases with density in the range of 45,000 trunk /hm2 to 135,000 trunk /hm2. When the density is over 135,000 trunk /hm2 the group boll amount remains basically stable.
