With the economical development of China at a high speed,the demand and assumption of energy is more and more. As the fossil energy is unrenewable,it is absolutely a best choice to produce bio-energy from biomass for the realization of our county' s sustainable development. Sweet sorghum, whose stalks have high content of sugar, is suitable for producing ethanol. Breeding sweet sorghum that has high biomass, sugar content and fine resistance to adverse environment is crucial to bio-fuel industry development.Therefore,improving the existing sweet sorghum cultivar and cultivating new fuchsin using molecular technology are important and urgent tasks.As a new irradiation source, heavy ion beam is applying more and more in breeding work. Carbon ion beam irradiation has been employed to cultivate sweet sorghum.Sweet sorghum premature mutant has been screened by heavy ion irradiation in Institute of Modern Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences. In my studies, SOD,POD and EST isozyme,RAPD polymorphism as well as physiological responses under drought stress of sweet sorghum premature mutant M2 were investigated using the methods of PAGE,RAPD and PEG simulated drought stress. providing the fundament for the mechanism of carbon ion beam irradiation and further breeding work.The results show that carbon ion irradiation has relatively great influence on EST isozymogram, indicating that EST can be used as an effective assistant tool for the subsequent mutant screening work. The analysis of genomic RAPD polymorphism indicates that carbon ion irradiation has generated mutation of genomic DNA and I suspect that these mutation are correlated to the premature property.Meanwhile, anti-oxidant property is also changed because of the carbon ion irradiation.MDA content of sweet sorghum is decreasing,and the expression of Pro is also affected.
