Torreya grandis belongs to the genus of Torreya, family of Taxaceae. In this paper, the optimal extraction conditions of aril of Torreya grandis were researched, the antimicrobial action and antioxidant ability were studied. Furthermore, the ethanol solutions of the essential oil at several concentrations were tested for mosquito {Aedes aegypti) repellency, it showed that:1,The optimal extraction conditions from aril of Torreya grandis were confirmed as follows: the extract time is 40min,ratio of solvent to material is 25:1,and the power is 200W. For total phenolics extraction, the concentration of ethanol is 30%,but higher concentration was needed for the total extraction;2,Contents of total phenolics, sugar, terpene and flavonoids were tested in water and ethanol extracts. Among those, the concentration of total terpene and sugar are much higher than the other two. Almost sixty compounds were identified through comparison with reference compounds, tentatively identified by comparing mass spectra and Kovats Index with those reported in mass spectra libraries and literature. The oil was characterized by high contents ofα- pinene (34.20%), D-limonene (27.58%), limonene glycol (3.64%) and isoborneol (2.36%).3,The extracts of aril of Torreya grandis showed strong clear effect on free radicals and reducing capacity, and the extracts showed inhibitory effect on oxidation of oil. The study showed that the antioxidant capacity had correlation with concentration of samples, and the antioxidant of water extracts was stronger.4,The extracts of aril of Torreya grandis had bacteriostatic action effect on fungus and germs. The solvent extract has lower effect on Colibacillus, Blue mould and Aspergillus niger, while the essential oil showed stronger antimicrobial effect on fungus.5,The ethanol solutions of Torreya grandis essential oil at concentrations of 12.5% and 25% provided complete protection for 1.0 h and 5.0h, showing comparable effectiveness to citronella oil in repelling Aedes aegypti; fumigating insecticidal activity was investigated by airtight fumigation in conical flask, the results showed essential oil from aril of Torryya grandis have considerable insecticidal effects against Aedes aegypti, the mortality rate reached 100% as the oil concentration was 500mg/L.
