| This paper studies the sea urchin alongshore in Qingdao. A series of feeding experiments were conducted to investigated the compensation growth following starvation in sea urchin, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus. The results are as follows:The 8 weeks recovery growth experiment was conducted with sea urchin (Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus) starved for different periods. Groups T1,T2 and T3 were deprived of food for 1,2 and 4 weeks, respectively, and then refed at ad libitum ration levels. With groups C1, C2 and C3 were fed at ad libitum ration levels for 8 weeks. At the end of starvation, the body weight of each starved group(T1,T2 and T3)was lower than that of control groups (C1, C2 and C3 ), gonad indexes of group T1 and T2 were lower than that of control group C1 and C2 and gonad indexes of group T3 were significantly lower than that of control group C3, gut indexes of group T1, T2, T3 were significantly lower than that of group C1, C2, C3.lantern indexes of group T1, T2, T3 were close to that of group C1, C2, C3. At the end of the experiment, the body weight, gonad indexes and the gut indexes of all groups were close. The experiment showed out that completely compensatory growth occurred in the sea urchin following starvation. At the beginning of recovery period, Feeding rate of all starved groups was higher than that of the control group, and then decreased. The higher absorption efficiency of starved groups indicated a greater absorption efficiency of sea urchin following starvation. Sea urchin grew compensatorily by means of increasing feeding rate(FR)and absorption efficiency(AE).The effect of starvation and refeeding to sea urchin chemical composition was studied. Another 8 weeks recovery growth experiment was conducted with sea urchin starved for different periods. Groups C, T1,T2 and T3 were deprived of food for 0, 1,2 and 4 weeks, respectively, and then refed at ad libitum ration levels. While being starved, water contents of the sea urchins increased, the protein contents decreased and then increased slowly. The lipid contents decreased sharply after 4 weeks starvation, and the carbohydrate decreased slowly.the results showed that the use order of energy materials during the starvation period was:protein→protein+carbohydrate→protein +carbohydrate+lipid. At the end of the experiment, the chemical compositions had recovered to the level of control group. The results showed that the pepsin activity of group T1 was significantly higher than that of group C1,group T2 and T3 had no significant differences with group C2 and C3. Upon refeeding, the pepsin activity of group T1 recovered to normal level, group T2 increased little and then decreased, group T3 increased slowly. At the end of the experiment, the pepsin activity of starved groups recovered to normal level. After 1 and 2 weeks starvation, the activity of amylase increased significantly, but the activity of group T3 has no significant differences with group C3. At the end of the experiment, the amylase activity of all groups were close.Lipase activity of all groups under starvation were significantly lower than that of control groups. The activity of group T3 increased significantly after refed for 3 weeks and then kept stable; At the end of the experiment, lipase activity of group T1 and T2 increased significantly, and all groups recovered to normal level eventually. The study indicated that the starvation caused varying degrees of effects to different digestive enzyme activity , due to their different characteristics and functionalities. |
