In this experiment turfgrass biological characteristics and sod quality of C.dactylon Pers.and L.perenne L.cultivated in different mediums were discussed. Production condition of free-soil sod were studied sod by using two turfgrass in one year."Producing turf with trufgrass clippings" and "returning to turf with turfgrass", trufgrass clippings were utilized effectively,which reduced the production cost of soil-free sod,and perfected the production technology of soil-free sod.The trufgrass growth was studied deeply after transplanting in short time and offered the theory and practice basis for production of soil-free sod.Medium treatments included:1 trufgrass clippings+sawdust+slag(3:1:1);2 trufgrass clippings+sawdust+rice husks+peat (2:1:1);3 mushroom leftover pieces+rice husks+peat(3:1:1);4 mushroom leftover pieces+sawdust+rice husks+slag(2:1:1:1);5 control(soil).Main results are summarized as follows:1.Specific gravity and bulk density in the four treatments were much lower than that in the soil,specific gravity in treatment 2 was the lowest,it was only 0.76,and bulk density in treatment 2 was the lowest too,it was only 0.20g/cm~3.while total porosity,saturation moisture capacity and permeate speed were higher.2.In the four treated mediums organic matter and available nutrient content were higher than that in the soil,organic matter in treatment 2 was the highest,it was 570.20g/kg,and that in treatment 5 was the lowest,it is only 22.10g/kg,available nutrient in treatment 2 and treatment 3 was the highest,that in treatment 5 was the lowest.Lean towards acid neutrally.Treatment 3 was weak acid and the rest was weak alkali,treatment 5 was acid.3.Turfgrass growing in treatment 2 and treatment 3 had the fewest days for germination and turf formation,germination in treatment 2 was 6d and that in treatment 3 was 7d,turf formation in treatment 3 was 28d and that in treatment 2 was 32d.Treatment 2 had the best turgrass biological characteristics while treatment 3 had the best turf quality.4.Treatment1-4 almost had not slow seedling stage and survival rate high,could obtain the instant result.After transplanting turfgrass growing in treatment 2 and 3 still grew better than the others.5.Taking turfgrass germination,biological characteristics,turf quality and growth situation after transplanting into account,treatment 2 was the best combination.The results showed that ideal free-soil medium should be:(1) Texture is light, the structure is loose,the total porosity is more than 80%,permeate speed is about 5 mm/min,saturation moisture capacity is 200-300%;(2) Organic matter content is above 350.00g/kg and nutrients such as available N,P,K were balance and abundant; (3) pH is suitable for turgrass seedling and growth.
