Phenophase and ornamental characteristics and the adaptability of 40 species of perennial flowers introduced from other province in China by Institute of Landscape Science in Baotou were observed and estimated by the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The resistence to cold and drought of the species with high score in the comprehensive evaluation was studied. The results are as follows:1.A set of estimation model which is suitable for local perennial flowes of Baotou was established by Analytic Hierarchy Process.According to this model, the comprehensive characteristics of 40 species of perennial flower were estimated and classified into four grades: 10 species with super comprehensive characteristics were classified as GradeⅠ;15 species with better comprehensive characteristics were classified as GradeⅡ;10 species with good comprehensive characteristics were classified as GradeⅢ;5 speicse with ordinary comprehensive characteristics were classified as GradeⅣ.The result of this evaluation was satisfactory. The priority and standard of every factors and the standard of classification grade constitute the integrated evaluation system of perennial flowers.2.The resistence of 10 perennial flowers were studied by the Growth Recovering. These materials were treated in the -15℃,-20℃,-25℃,-30℃individually.It is indicated that Sedum spectabile which can survive in -30℃,has the strongest resistence to low temperature, followed by Penstmon burbatus,Hemerocallis 'Stella deoro',Physostegia virginiana,Aquilegia viridiflora which can survive in the -20—-25℃.Coreopsis verticllata has the weakest resistence to cold among these species. It showed the sign of the damage at -15℃and can't survive in the winter in Baotou.3.The results of the observing in the crop field, measuring the ability of holding water in the leaves and the amount of water in the soil under the press of drought drew the simialr conclusion:the resistence to drought of Sedum spectabile,Hemerocallis 'Stella deoro',Gaillardia aristata,Penstmon burbatus are strongest in these species, followed by Malcolmia maritime,Physostegia virginiana,Monarda didyma,Aquilegia viridiflora,Lythrum salicaria.Coreopsis verticllata have the weakest resistence to drought.
