In this experiment,the biological characteristics which from the period of growth and development,morphological traits and fecundity,as well as its turf-value have been studied and shade tolerance and cold resistance were also discussed with four wild centipedegrass and Zoysia japonica Steud.Cv.Lanyin No.3 through plot experiment.It will provide a theoretical basis for further development and utilization of the resources in Hunan area.The results are as follows:1.The four wild centipedegrass and Zoysia japonica Steud.Cv.Lanyin No.3 were all returning green in the early and middle of March and turning yellow in the middle and late of December.The green period of wild centipedegrassâ… ,â…¡,â…¢andâ…£were 295 days,293 days,286 days and 284 days respectively,while the green period of Zoysia japonica Steud. Cv.Lanyin No.3 was 272 days.The wild centipedegrassâ… ,â…¡,â…¢were heading and flowering in June and July,and have a long fructicative period with the inconsistent seed maturation.Theâ…£and Zoysia japonica Steud Cv.Lanyin No.3 were heading and flowering in the late May with twice flowering and fructicative periods in a year.2.There was a great difference in external morphological traits,the variation coefficient of all other traits were more than 10%except the length of stolon and diameter of the stem node.The variation coefficient of leaf length,leaf width and leaf area were 30.72%, 14.29%and 44.69%respectively,while the population natural height was 30.65%and total variation coefficient was 25.07%,which showed that there was an abundant morphological diversity.3.With respect to the fecundity,there was a huge difference in other indexes except for floret per panicle.The total yield has the maximum variation coefficient,range from 1.695g/m~2 to 11.967g/m~2 and the variation coefficient was up to 75.55%.It was showed that there was a different seed production performance with different materials,â… andâ…£were the best,â…¢andâ…¡were the worst.4.As regard to the stress tolerance,there was a good diseases and pests tolerance for all of the grasses.Theâ… andâ…£have a good shading tolerance in shading 70%and the shading tolerance for all grasses was in the sequence ofâ…£ï¼žâ… ï¼žâ…¡=Ⅲ>Zoysia japonica Steud. Cv.Lanyin No.3.There were difference in root activity,leaf electrolyte leakage, chlorophyll content,soluble sugar content,MDA content and proline content for different grasses in different stage.It was low in electrolyte leakage,high in chlorophyll content and soluble sugar content forâ… andâ…¡,and their cold tolerance was better thanâ…¢,â…£and Zoysia japonica Steud Cv.Lanyin No.3.5.Theâ… ,â…¡,â…£were fit for landscape lawn,open lawn,and not suit for sports lawn and ecological turf from the comprehensive score of turf value for each grass,whileâ… got the highest point,â…¡andâ…£were scored lower by comparison.The wild centipedegrassâ…¢andâ…£were scored in the middle of the range,which fit for sport lawn.
