Five chinese herbal medicine were chosen in this experiment in order to serach one special for quail breeding. Different percentage of these medicines were serially added to feedstuff to study their effects on both the Quail's meat productivity and egg productivity systematically. This would provide a scientificly theoretical basis of the mechanism that how the chinese herbal medicine impose its effect on quail growth, and bring more economic value for stock farming. Our experiment were designed in two parts. The first one: different percentage of pine needle, atractylodes macrocephala and kuhseng were added to feedstuff to study their effects on the Quail's meat productivity. The results were as follows:(1)groups feeded with pine needle, atractylodes macrocephala and kuhseng could promote quail gowth and show significant difference to control group.(2)group added with each medicine showed relatively improvement in the aspects of metabolic rate, abatage rate, Half eviscerting rate, Total eviscerting rate, chest muscle rate and leg muscle rate. The meat productivity was also improved which directly raised its commercial value.(3)serum biochemistry difference of each added group was not significant which further confirmed the safety of china herbal medicine.(4)the best percentage of these medicines was 0.6%pine needle 0.2%atractylodes macrocephala 0.4%kuhseng or 0.6%pine needle 0.4%atractylodes macrocephala 0.2%kuhseng, according to their effects on growth produtivity, abatage produtivity, meat quality and serum chemitry. The second one: different percentage of pine needle, orange peel and fleeceflower root were added to feedstuff to study their effects on the Quail's egg productivity. The results were as follows:(1)groups feeded with pine needle, orange peel and fleeceflower root could raise quail egg productivity and lowered the percentage of breed to meat.(2)group added with each medicine showed relatively improvement in the aspects of Haugh unit, egg yellow index, egg yellow relative content, albumen protein content, egg yellow prptein content and egg yellow fat content.(3)serum biochemistry difference of each added group was not significant which further confirmed the safety of china herbal medicine.(4)the best percentage of these medicines was 0.6%orange, peel 0.2%pine needle and 0.4%fleeceflower root or 0.6%orange peel, 0.4%pine needle and 0.2%fleeceflower root, according to their effects on egg produtivity, egg quality and serum chemitry.
