Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae is also called"yusgu","dongshu"and"yuqianbaishu"in China. Their immunomodulatory effect but not polysaccharides had been studied. Since most polysaccharides have the effects of immunomodulatory and anti-tumor, in this paper, the structure feature and biological activities of polysaccharide isolated from water extract of Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae were reported. The results may help the development of Rubus crataegiflolius Bge in the future.A water soluble crude polysaccharide is extracted from the water-boiled dry Atractylodes macrocephala koidz, and its content is 10%.After graded by freezing and purified by the combined deprotionization methods of enzyme and sevage, and purified by Sephadex G-75 gel filitration, one fraction was obtained: AMP . It was homogeneous by tests:Gel filtration on Sephadex G-75,Determination of specific rotation and HPLC analyse, Cellulose acetate pellicle electrophoresis.The average molecular weight is 8374 by means of HPLC. AMP contain Glc,Gal,Rha, Man, in molar ratio of 7.36:1.00: 3.05:1.52 by G.C.Partial hydrolysis with acid,Periodate oxidation,Smith degradation, I.R. were used on the structure analysis of AMP. The results revealed that the main chain of AMP is mainly made up of Glc, Rha,Man; The nonreduced end is composed of Glc.The main chain is mainly made up of (1→3)Glc, (1→6)Glc and (1→4,6) Glc;the minor is (1→3)Rha and (1→3,6) Man. The branches are made up of Glc(1→4,6) and Man(1→3,6); There is 1 branches among 6 main chain residues.
