Biological isolation technology is the adoption of thorny plants highly adaptable to local environmental conditions, planted on the highway edge into the fence- like form instead of the mental fence, which is of great significance for the closed protection and ecological conservation as well as lowering production costs. The selection, breeding and cultivation techniques of thorny plants used for the highway fence are the key to success .This study defined preliminarily the plants suitable for biological isolation on highway by comparing the characteristics of some ordinary thorny plants of the region. Through the survey and classification of Pyracantha resources, the types of Pyracantha sudable for highway fence were defined.The physiological and biochemical characreristics of four kinds of thorny plants—Pyracantha, Poncirus trifoliata and Rosa, under various degrees of drought stress were studied, which provided a scientific basis for the choice and cultivation of stress tolerance for the wild thorny plant resources. The seed germination rate of Pyracantha under different storage conditions, the survival plant rate in different cutting propagation ways and the cultivation adaptability of the Paliurus ramosissimu and Pyracantha in different site conditions were also investigated.The main results are as follows:1. Breeding and Selection of fine thorny plantsThe poverty of the wild Pyracantha in our province provides a rich breeding germplasm resources for the selection and breeding of Pyracantha used for fence. The wild Pyracantha and Paliurus ramosissimu plant traits performed diversity, although there exists some bad characters, but some plants with certain excellent traits or good integrated traits were also found, which laid a good foundation for further selection . Through the choice of three generations of wild Pyracantha sexual reproduction, Pyracantha,Xiongnong 1, a thornier, more intensive, sturdy, more stress-tolerant and more strong adaptable type has been selected.2.Research On the Resistance Of Plants For Isolating Living ThingsBy the comprehensive analysis of the physiological indicators, such as the growth state, membrane permeability, SOD, POD, proline, soluble sugar and the MDA of four kinds of thorny plants under the drought-stress conditions, it is concluded that among these thorny plants tested, Paliurus ramosissimu is the strongest, Pyracantha is the weakest, and Poncirus trifoliata,Rosa laevigata the center in drought-resistance.This also indicates the physiological and biochemical reactions in plants after drought-stress is identical with the plant growth.3. Study on the Propagation Techniques of the Plants For Biological IsolationWet environmental storage can keep the Pyracantha in good germination ability. When propagating by cutting, the survival rate of the one-year-old shoots is the highest, followed by the tender, and the perennial shoots is the lowest. The materials of the nutrition bags which compose of garden soil and 20% of peat soil are beneficial to promoting the growth of Paliurus ramosissimu and can make it gain largerbiomass in a short term.4. Application of Biological Isolation Plants on Highway FenceIt is better for Pyracantha and Paliurus ramosissimu to transplant with The nutrition bag grows seedlings,when the survival rate is the highest. When using for isolation on highways, the length of the stem can suitably left longer in order to quickly obtain a higher plant and reach isolated effects. Considering the fast-growth, protective effect, landscape effects and the ecological environment protection of the thorny plants, it is concluded that Pyracantha and Paliurus ramosissimu have a good performance in all aspects.
