Wild vegetable is one of the edible wild plant resource and the principal vegetable supply source which is uncultivated. Growing in natural environment for long term, wild vegetable is very popular in people for it is not only rich in nutrition but also free of chemical fertilizer and pesticide pollution. In this study, more than 260 wild and special vegetables have been introduced into Shanghai for experimental planting since 1999. And XiaLiang was developed by crossing two selected Solarium photeinocarpum Nakamura ET Odashima inbred lines from Hainan and Guangxi province through 6 successive selections. By observing its biological characteristics, doing series productive experiments, testing the nutrition value and heavy metals content, all the results showed that this variety was not only rich in nutrition and high-yielding, but also has the strong resistance to high-temperature, disease and insects. In 2004, this variety had been examined and approved by Shanghai Crop Variety Certification Committee and was named XiaLiang. PuYuBai was selected from the material which induced from northwest Hu'nan province. Same with XiaLiang, this variety have the characters of fast-growing, high output, heat-resisting and full of nutrition. In 2005, this variety had been examined and approved by Shanghai Crop Variety Certification Committee and was named PuYuBai. At the same time the author evolve the cultivation techniques of XiaLiang and PuYuBai by means of made small cultivated experiments in the multi position loading for several years. These two new vegetable varieties both can resist high temperature, provide a new choice and play a good role in the regulation of vegetable supply in high-temperature season and have a good prospect of development in Shanghai.
