Through the primary selection in 2005, seven varieties of potato were selected suchas Atlantic, zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5, Favorita, 9903, Shepody. Dongnong303was considered as comparison in this research. Then a comparative experiment aboutvarieties was made in Hunan province in 2006. The result as follows:1 Compared with dongnong303, Atlantic was a better variety for processing, andits dormancy season was short. It had a better disease resistance and commodity whichadded to 91.5%. Round tubers, shallow and few eyes, white flesh, buff colored skin, thecontents of dry matter and starch were very high, but reducing sugar was low, so it wassuitable as a main variety for processing chips. The tubers of Atlantic grew slowly onthe prophase of growth, but the tubers per plant grew fast after May 6th .The reason wasthat the amount of tubers added. The content of dry matter in tubers increased slowly,and the content of chlorophyll in leaves of Atlantic was lower than zhongshu No.5. Itsphotosynthesis rate was the lowest among the varieties engaged in the experiment. Theactivity of CAT,POD and SOD was medium. In general, Atlantic was a very excellentvariety for processing chips at home.2 Zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5 and Favorita are all early varieties of potatowhose dormancy seasons were similar with dongnong303. Favorita and dongnong303expresses excellently, so they were suitable to be planted thickly. In disease resistance,zhongshu No.3 was the best, the second were Favorita and zhongshu No.5. ZhongshuNo.3, zhongshu No.5, Favorita and 9903 were superior to dongnong 303 in commodity.The tubers of Zhongshu No.5, Favorita and 9903 concentrated, but the tubers ofFavorita and 9903 distributed shallowly. The flesh color of zhongshu No.5 was buff,others were yellow. In addition, zhongshu No.5 and Favorita had lots of eyes, the other were fewer than dongnong303. In yield, zhongshu No.5 was superior high significantlyto dongnong303, zhongshu No.3 was secondary. But 9903 and Favorita were notsignificant. The content of dry matter about zhongshu No.3 added to 27.37% which wasthe highest, Favorita was the lowest. All varieties had no difference on the content ofstarch. Zhogshu No.5, Favorita and 9903 in the fact of reducing sugar were low to0.3%.During the period of tuber, dongnong303, zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5, Favoritaand 9903 did not grew slowly until the harvest season. Dry matter had accumulatedrapidly since the metaphase of tuber, then the rate of the accumulation of dry matterincreased slowly. The content of chlorophyll had something with the average yield ofsection, but photosynthesis rate had no something with the average yield of sectiondirectly. The activities of CAT about zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5, Favorita and 9903were superior high significantly to dongnong303. POD of Favorita also surpass highsignificantly dongnong303, but zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5 and 9903 were interiorhigh significantly to dongnong303. SOD of zhongshu No.5 was the highest, 9903followed it, and Favorita was similar to dongnong303.All in all, compared with dongnong303, zhongshu No.3, zhongshu No.5, Favoritaand 9903 were all better table potato or processing varieties.3 In this research, the result showed that Shepody behaved worst among sevenvarieties. It did not adapt to the climate of Hunan province, so it was not suitable to bepopularized on larger scale of plant area in Hunan province.
