Study On Change Of Forest Resources And Evaluation Of Forest Services And Functions In Guangdong

As one of important resources of human being, Forest resource is playing vital pole ineconomic and society sustainable development, because it can accelerate economic developmentand improve environment quality. Land use and land cover change(LUCC) is one of the keythemes in global change at present. Forestry land based on forest is one of land use types, sostudying regional forest change and forest services and functions is very significant for regionalsustainable development.This paper is on the basis of forest distribution maps of Guangdong in 1986, in 1989～1993and 1994～1998, and time serial data provided by forestry administration of Guangdong,supported with GIS, and uses statistical methods, synthesis analysis of geography, GIS andmathematics methods to analyze forest resources space-time change. Forestry land decreases andthen increases. Forested land is increasing all the while. From 1992, area of shelter forests risesin great extent, firewood forests declines and forests for specific use changes little. Young-agedforest accounts for considerable proportion, the proportion of mature-aged forests is rising, but itis always small. The volume of forest resource goes up persistently, and volumes of Young-aged,middle-aged and mature-aged forest changes along with areas. Combining other social andeconomic data, paper analyzes the driving forces of forest change. With ecosystem valuemethods by Costanza, it calculates forest services and functions in Guangdong in 1987, 1996 and2004 respectively, and proportion of ecology function is increasing and that of economicfunction is decreasing.
