| Rice is essential food for at least half population of the world. The common wild rice, Oryza rufipogon Griff is originaly an closerelative of Asian cultivated rice and have played a great role inrice breeding. The exploitation and utilization of the usefulsources of CMS in O. rufipogon made our country succeed incommercialized hybrid rice first in the world. Diversity in the useof the CMS is importance for advance in hybrid rice production anddevelopment. The common wild rice is the major source of the CMS usedin hybrid rice, and therefore, the purpose of the present study isto screen CMS sources from the wild for further evaluation andutilization of new CMS sources. Concretely, by the research of malesterility and fertility restoration in O. rufipogon, we hope toacquire new male sterility and fertility restoration sources andunderstand the fertility restoration characteristic of Guangxirufipogon Griff for better use the genetic diversity of Guangxicommon wild rice in sustainable development in three-line hybrids. Through the method of hybridization, investigation to male fertilityof the progenies and statistic analysis, a total of 39 CMS rice plantsfrom different sources of O. rufipogon in Guangxi were obtained inthe F2 progenies in the experiment. Two new CMS rice lines with theirCMS transferred from the common wild rice showed stable sterilityand their restoring resources will be found in the next research:The sources of O. rufipogon from various regions of Guangxi was foundthat most of them possessed restoring genes for the new CMS materialsin this study. The restoration of male fertility ranged from 41.25%to 99.38% with mean pollen fertility of 72.90% and a variancecoefficient of 17.66%. These indicated that the fertilityrestoration genes wildly exist in Guangxi wild rice. The results haveproven that new CMS lines with different male sterility-restorationgene relation from currently used wild-aborted ones would beselected from O. rufipogon and the restorers for these new CMS linescould be obtained from the wild that provided the new CMS and it isfeasible to exploit new strong restorers for the wild rice. |
