| Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ) is one of the main greenhouse potted flowers in the world and the most popular Spring Festival Flowers in China. Standardization of cultivation management and environment control can ensure high quality products. Aiming at main problems of flowering control and low quality for poinsettia in Nanjing area, according to consumes' habits and weather characteristics, 15 excellent aboard varieties were investigated to select satisfactory varieties for Nanjing area according to consumes' habits and weather factors. To obtain high quality seedlings for production, the quick propagation seedling technologies were studied. As to the cultivation media, Chinese herbal medicine dregs is considered as an economical and viable one for poinsettia. Then different growth retardants were used to find how they effect the external quality especially plant height. 'Freedom 'was supposed to be the most suitable variety for short-day treatment.(1) Selection of poinsettia cultivars for production in Nanjing15 excellent aboard varieties were investigated to select satisfactory varieties for Nanjing area according to consumes' habits and weather factors. The results indicated that: Cortez red, RedVelvet, Peter Star, Millenium had better shape; RedVelvet, Cortez red, Millenium had the better behavior. RedVelvet, Cortez red, Millenium behaved better both in shape and behavior, was suitable to be cultivated in Nanjing, while Sonora, Galactica, Freedom White, Angel not.(2) propagation of Poinsettia seedlingsDifferent kinds of branches, different cutting media, and period, were investigated to find the effect on seedling propagation. The results showed that: rooting can be higher that up to 96% when flower foam the rooting was used as cutting media; when cutting was conducted in spring and summer ,the rooting rate was 20% higher than that in autumn and winter, inaddition date can be advanced 10 days; the middle half-wooden tress with 5～6 leaves had the highest rooting rate.(3)Selection of poinsettia mediaThe effects of different kinds of cultivated media on poinsettia growth and flowering was studied. The results showed that Chinese herbal medicine dregs especially adding the germ can make plants grow prosperous, tightly, trimness in crown, and the diameter and number of branches doubles as that of control. The costs with Chinese herbal medicine dregs as media 50% and 40% of fertilizer too.(4) control of Poinsttea heightDifferent growth retardants B~9 CCC, B~9+CCC were sprayed to study the influences on extra qualities especially on plant height. The results showed that the retardants decreased plant height dramatically in vegetative stage;but it not only decreased plant height, also lowered extra qualities and delayed in reproductive stage flowering period. Futhermore,the combination of B~9+CCC led to some damage to plants.(5)Regulation of poinsttea anthesis'Millennium', 'Cortez', 'Freedom red ', 'Freedom powder' were selected to study the effect of short-day treatment on flowering period. The results indicated that 'Millennium' was suitable for flowering regucation by short-day treatment, and itcan lead to good quality. Other varieties treated by short-day bloom lately, which is probably relevant with cultivar character and high night temperature.
