It has important meaning of using physical irradiation-method to prevent and kill pest and to process foodstuff and to quarantine agricultural product and byproduct's imports and exports, furthermore, to protect the entironment.According to the interaction of various electromagnetic wave and materials, physical effects of organism irradiated, chemical effects and biological effects, the mechanism of killing the insects by the physical irradiation was revealed in this article. The experiment used X-ray,γ-ray and microwave of different dose to irradiate eggs of Gypsy moth in order to study its effects for different growth time of Gypsy moth Firstly, the effects of X- ray,γ-ray and microwave irradiation to egg hatching rate were studied. Secondly, more discussed the grub's death, pupation, eclosion.. Finally, the conclusion of physical irradiation exterminating insects was got from the total mortality. The purpose of study was to provide a theory for the study and actual application of physical irradiation exterminating insects.Egg hatching rate decreased obviously after irradiated by microwave, X-ray andγ-ray, the energy range of X-ray used in the experiment was 6480-129600J,γ-ray had 5 kinds of irradiation source. Under the condition, it was not obvious for the effects of the hatching rate to change the irradiation dose. But the microwave was decreased obviously with the increase of microwave irradiation dose. X-ray,γ-ray and microwave all could make average mortality of worm increase. Mortality of worm will go up with the increase of irradiation dose of x-ray, rray. The effect of microwave irradiation to the mortality of worm was the most obvious. The worm mortality could be up to 100% by setting experiment parameter. Average pupation rate of worm could be reduced by X-ray,γ-ray and microwave irradiation. X-ray irradiation made the curve of pupation rate decrease in wave form. The pupation rate was close to 50% by X-ray irradiation with129600J energy. The worm pupation rate reduced obviously with the increase ofγ-ray dose. When the irradiation time was 24 hours, the lowest pupation rate was 50%. The effect of worm pupation rate was obvious which could be 0 by setting experiment parameter. When X-ray irradiation dose was small, its effect for emergence rate was not obvious. When the X-ray dose increased to 57600J, the emergence rate decreased obviously. The effect of microwave irradiate to the emergence rate was more obvious. When it reached a certain dose, the emergence rate was reduced to 0.The total mortality was obtained by the mortality from various phases. It was found that no matter which kind of electromagnetic waves irradiation was, the curve of total mortality increases linearly with the increase of irradiation dose, and the mortality was up to 90%. This shows, the result of physics irradiation exterminating insects is obvious, and it provides an effective method to prevent and cure forest plant disease, irradiate foodstuff, quarantine imports and exports agricultural byproduct.
