12 2-3 parity Small Tail Han Sheep (STHS) with body weight of 47kg were divided into 3 groups (n=4), and were fed with 3 diets which ratios of concentrate to maize straw were 20:80, 30:70 and 40:60 respectively, to study the effect of diet ratio of concentrate to roughage on STHS in the early period (50-65days) and the late period (110-125days) of pregnancy. The results showed that the OM intake in 3 groups were 1054.8±55.2, 1067.1±87.8 and 1359.6±187.0 g/d·h respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 1023.6±22.4,1005.7±33.5 and 1392.7±145.0g/d·h respectively in the late period of pregnancy; the intake of maize straw were 891.2±51.7,773.1±63.0 and 834.2±117.1g/d·head respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 891.3±26.0,784.6±33.0 and 896.9±95.9g/d·head respectively in the late periods of pregnancy; the OM digestibility were 65.8±1.0,67.2±2.8 and 69.3±1.3% respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 59.0±2.2,68.1±3.3 and 64.4±1.7% respectively in the late period of pregnancy; the apparent CP digestibility were 70.8±2.2, 74.9±2.3 and 66.4±5.9% respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 68.3±2.1,73.4±2.2 and 68.8±1.8% respectively in the late period of pregnancy. The digestibility of cellulose in diets were 67.8±2.1,62.3±6.1 and 61.7±3.7% respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 57.6±2.0, 65.8±9.7 and 58.3±2.6% respectively in the late period of pregnancy. The nitrogen retention (NR) were 5.23±0.87, 7.71±0.45 and 11.34±1.44g/d·head respectively in the early period of pregnancy, and 5.86±1.43,7.39±1.75 and 12.42±2.32g/d·head respectively in the late period of pregnancy. The body weight gain were -4.5±1.62,-0.2±9.41 and 1.92±4.57 kg/sheep, respectively. The results showed that the concentration of blood sugar in 3 groups were 0.36±0.04, 0.29±0.04 and 0.26±0.01 mmol/100ml in the early period of pregnancy, and 0.23±0.02, 0.26±0.04 and 0.27±0.04 mmol/100ml in the late period of pregnancy. The concentration of plasma insulin were 2.19±2.03,4.75±3.09 and 6.5±2.53μIU/100ml in the early period of pregnancy, and 3.59±0.78, 6.9±3.43 and 9.51±3.63μIU/100ml. The concentration of plasma T4 were 104.79±2.5, 101.7±36.8 and 120.3±33.83 in the early period of pregnancy, and 56.13±12.31, 60.59±15.61 and 86.36±36.96ng/ml in the late period of pregnancy. There is on clear sign of compound metabolism during the period of pregnancy, however, the concentration of plasma insulin was increased with pregnancy.. It is concluded that the ratio of concentrate to roughage and the time of pregnancy make complicated impacts on the digestibility of pregnant STHS, and the content of concentrate for reproducing STHS should not less than 30%.
