How toconserve and develop present livestock and poultry resources was the focus of global animalhusbandry. Longdong Black Goat was a dual-purpose breed, which was a particular localgroup in Longdong desert range. This goat played an active role in accelerating developmentof local economy and increasing people's standard of living. However, the genetic resourcesmet exhausted crisis. In this paper, reviewed advantage and crisis of genetic resources oflivestock and poultry in our country and studying progress of conserving technique for animalgenetic resources, analyzing present status and existing problems for livestock resources inGansu Province, and researching status for Longdong black goat, therefore, It is necessary toprotect and use Longdong Black Goat.From January, 2003 to December, 2005, by searching a number of literatures, having aninformal discussion at different level, visiting, distributing questionnaire, establishing relationwith farmers and analyzing data, further studying distribution, appearance and productiveperformance of Longdong black goat, such as body weight, body size, budge quality, yieldand quality of hair and undercoat, meat performance, reproductive performance and so on.Longdong black goat can adapt to rigorous environment and produce different products, forexample, meat, fur, undercoat, budge. The goat is the excellent material breeding new goatbreeds and important genetic resources developing goat production and increasing farmers'income at local area. However, Longdong black goat has been a endangered breed. Accordingto investigating germplasm characteristics, present status for genetic resources and developingforeground of Longdong black goat, putting forward conserving measures and developingmeans for genetic resources of Longdong black goat.
