Current Status Of Selecting New Variety And Investigation Of Extension Pattern In Sweet Corn

The sweet corn originated in America. It could be classified as common (su1, su2), enhancing sweet corn (su1se), super sweet corn (sh1, sh2, sh4) and fragile sweet corn (bt1, bt2) according to the differences of mutant genes which controlled composition and characters of carbohydrates in endosperm. Presently, common sweet con, enhancing sweet corn and super sweet corn were widely used in production. The production of sweet corn was started late in China, and the market also was at the preliminary development phase. However, the development of sweet corn industry was advantageous to the adjustment of agriculture industrial structure in the countryside, increasing exportation income and developing rural economics. It has broad prospects for development. This paper discussed the current status of new variety selective breeding in sweet corn and its extension pattern in China.The paper discussed the classification, production, consumption of sweet corn, as well as the development at home and abroad. The current status of new variety selective breeding of sweet corn was also analyzed. The conventional methods combing with biological technology could accelerate the breeding process. The quality is the most important character in sweet corn breeding, especially the thickness of pericarp is the chief factor which affected the quality of sweet corn.This paper introduced six common kinds of extension patterns in the current agriculture science and technology in China. The characteristics and request of new variety extension of sweet corn were analyzed by comparing market-leadership in US and government-leadership in China. And the processing companies were considered as the primary objective for extending the new sweet corn variety. A major extension pattern for new varieties was proposed: eruptible-extending in extension form, using both good variety and method in the extension content, and using the "company + famaer" as the industrial chain operation in the extension strategy. The paper proposed a management pattern combining breeding, propagating, extending and selling together from the example of the extension of one new sweet corn variety, "Jinfei". It was benefit for constructing a famous brand of sweet corn variety.At last, three major problems which needs to be solved in sweet corn breeding were proposed: strengthening collection of germplasm resources and the foundation material establishment, adjusting the breeding objectives promptly according to the market demand, and constructing famous brand of sweet corn to improve competitive ability in markets at home and abroad. Meanwhile, the paper discussed the extension pattern of new variety of sweet corn at present and analyzed the problems in developing sweet corn industry in China. And the paper also suggested that the sweet corn should be classified into vegetables, propagandizing and variety brand construction for sweet corn should be enhanced, processing products of sweet corn should be developed.
