Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the primary causative agent of postweaningmultisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in swine. PCV2 infection is associated withvarious other clinical signs, such as immunodeficiency, and causes some intercurrentdiseases. The prevalence of PCV2 infection has induced imponderable economic loss inthe world pig industry. In order to determine the state of PCV2 infection in swine populations in Fujian,Longyan, not only the survey of questionnaire and clinical observation, but also thetechniques of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay (ELISA) were used. The results showed that the positive rate of PCV2 antibody in24 pig farms which had PMWS was 52.3%, and the rate in 45 random sampling farmswas 45.6%. The positive rate of PCV2 PCR was 41.7% in PMWS farms and 21.4% inrandom sampling farms. All these results suggested that the PCV2 infection is one ofthe primary causative agent in swine disease.According to the practical fact, many measures, such as vaccine innoculation, emphasized management, drugs and so on, had been taken to control the PCV2infection in pigs.
