Cichorium intybus L. has been used as food, medicine and forage since ancient times. It has important physiological and health protective value that makes it significant in food industry and medicine field. Cichorium intybus L. has many physiological and sanitarian functions, such as decreasing blood lipid, decreasing blood sugar and decreasing uric acid.In order to study the antibiotic activities of Cichorium intybus L.,its roots were taken as materials. With ethanol as solvent, the effects of raw material to ethanol, temperature and time on extracting rate were tested by means of single factor and orthogonal experiment and the optimum extracing condition was determined. With Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,Staphylococcus aureus and some molds and yeasts as experimented microbes, the antibiotic activities of ethanol extract from baked Cichorium intybus L. were tested by means of filter paper method. With Botrytis cirerea,Fusarium graminearum,Exserohilum turcicum,Macrophoma kawastsukai,Sclerotinia sclerotiorum,Alternaria alternate and Bipolaris sorokiniana as experimented fungi,Antibiotic activities of the petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of Cichorium intybus L.were tested in vitro and in vivo. The results as follows:1. The extracting techniques of ethanol extract from baked Cichorium intybus L. were studied. On the base of the single factor experiments, the ratio of raw material to ethanol, the extracting temperature and the extracting time were selected as three factors to design the orthogonal test and the optimum condition of extracting techniques was obtained: the ethanol content is 80%, ratio of raw material to ethanol is 1:14, extracting temperature is 60℃,the extracting time is 2h, and extracting times of extracting is twice.2. Ethanol extract of baked Cichorium intybus L. had antibiotic activities to germs, yeasts and some moulds. The inhibition sequence to experimented microbes was: to germs >to yeasts>to molds. Ethanol extract had the best antibiotic activities to germs, at the concentration of 10g·L-1, diameters of inhibition zone to Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis were 9.70mm,7.45mm and 10.23mm respectively. It had no antibiotic activities to Penicillium sp. and Aspergillus niger.3. Ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of Cichorium intybus L. had evident antibiotic...
