The climate of high temperature and RH in Shanghai area is not good for the tomato's growth. Therefore, it is very hard to meet the needs of market in summer. Although we can cultivate tomato in the modern greenhouse by artificial measures, the cost is too much for the commercialized operation. The cultivation in the small plastic greenhouse is one of the most common cultivation pattern, however, the over-summer cultivation of tomato under this condition is always the technical difficuty in Shanghai area. Therefore, it is very meaningful to find out a appropriate system for the tomato's over-summer cultivation in the small plastic greenhouse. The study was to discover the effects of different species and cultivation measures including the pruning, cover and mulching ways on the change of the microclimate of small plastic greenhouse in which the plants were cultivated. Moreover, the physiology, yield, and fruit qualities of tomato were also studied, in order to choose the best cultivation system of tomato under over-summer condition. The results were as follows:All the three species studied in the experiment could be considered as the choice for over-summer cultivation. As for the two large-fruit species, Fenjingang performed better than Taotailang in the aspects of physiology, yield and fruit qualities; for the small-friut species, Hongyingni grew very fast, the plant was strong with good antiviral ability as well as excellent fruit qualities of appearance and nutrition.Continued decapitation was the best pruning way for the growth of tomato, the yield was the most among the three pruning ways, which was 4005.02kg/hm2 ; meanwhile, the furit qualities were also good. Therefore, continued decapitation was the best pruning way for tomato's over-summer cultivation.Mulching with non-woven fabric could provided better enviroment for the tomato's growth under over-summer cultivation condition, since it could decrese the RH and temperature, and protected the leaves from the strong light. What was more important, it could provided enough light for the photosynthesis and reduced the possibilities of disease occurring.Mulching with rice straw could provide a good soil environment for the root of tomato by decreasing the temperature and keeping the water of soil. In this way, it promoted the growth and development of the aerial part. The treatment with rice straw mulching made the yield of tomato a big increase as well as excellent performance of physiology and fruit qualities.
