Investigation Of Tea Varieties Introduced And Germplasm Resources In Shandong Province

Since tea plants were introduced from South of China to Shandong Provence,tea seedlings for new tea gardens have been still introduced from the South, and thus it has greatly enriched the tea varieties and germplasm in Shandong,also make people acquire rich experience on the tea introduction.In order to have a comprehensive analysis on the introduction of tea varieties and to collect and screen excellent tea germplasms in Shandong,the aspects including introduction way, original regions, number and types of tea varieties were studied by the field investigation , questionnaire and literature searching. Meanwhile, some tea trees with excellent characteristic were found, and then observed and measured. The results are as follows:1. The tea varieties in Shandong province are mainly introduced from Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan and Anhui provinces.Now there are 75 kinds of tea varieties in total, which are classified to two types as species group ( 7 kinds) and clonal group (68 kinds) ; or three types as national varieties (40 kinds), provincial varieties(14 kinds) and local varieties (21 kinds) by different level identification; or four types by different suitability of tea processing as suitable for green tea(31 kinds), oolong tea(21 kinds), red & green tea (19 kinds),and multifarious teas (3 kinds).2. The main way of tea varieties introduction is to purchase tea seeds,and the varieties planted widely are Jiukeng and Fuding . Although many clonal seedlings have been introduced and the number of them is still increasing,they have not planted in a large scale,most of them are being planted experimentally.3. In order to meet the diversified needs of tea consumption , the suitability of introduction tea varieties in Shandong is modified from green tea to green & red tea, oolong tea and multifarious teas.4. Currently,the clonal varieties planted mainly in practice are as follows:Fuding dabai, Longjing 43, Longjing changye, Baihaozao and Yingshuang. In the future, some varieties such as Zhongcha 108, Wu niuzao, Shu chazao, Pingyang tezao, Jin guanyin Jinxuan and so on are also suitable to be planted.5. Some tea trees, which are excellent characteristic including growing fast, strong cold tolerance, strong adaptability , rolling- back leaf or small leaf , were found in tea gardens of Shandong . The number of them was 15, 12 , 9 , 2 and 2 kinds respectively.
